Family and Friends

If you haven’t read the golden lesson here, make sure you read it first.

From my previous experiences, I realized that placing keyword ads on Google Adwords or other platforms isn't always the most effective strategy for consumer products. Instead, organic growth can be a more valuable approach. Begin with friends and family and use strategies that turn your customers into marketeers.

The first thing I did was to craft an authentic message. Here’s a translated excerpt:

"I would love to tell you that I officially launched my new website, Sarahah. At work, I noticed how difficult it can be to give honest feedback to a manager..."

I concluded with a clear call to action part:

How can you support me?

  • Create your own page and share it.
  • Give me feedback on my page.
  • Follow the Twitter account and spread the word.

While getting support from friends and family is often straightforward, reaching beyond this circle requires your product to be valuable and appealing enough to catch the interest of friends of friends or followers of your friends.

Another crucial element is shareability. Sharing the Sarahah link was straightforward, and joining Sarahah involved minimal friction since it was a web solution easily accessible from in-app browsers of social media apps. This is why I always advise entrepreneurs to start with a web version if the value can be realized through a web interface, as downloading an app can create unnecessary barriers.
